What to Buy

  • Skincare and cosmetics — sheet masks, sunscreen, serums and cushion foundation. Compare prices at a few stores; promotions change weekly.
  • Snacks and food — Honey Butter Chips, Choco Pie, instant ramyeon, roasted seaweed, citron tea. Check your home country’s rules on bringing in food.
  • K-pop goods — albums and merchandise at record shops, Kyobo and around Hongdae and COEX.
  • Traditional souvenirs — celadon-style ceramics, hanji paper goods, mother-of-pearl boxes and tea sets in Insadong.

Save Money

  • Tax refund: spend ₩15,000 or more in one receipt at a “Tax Free” store and show your passport for an instant refund of about 5–8%. → Tax refund guide
  • Duty free: for luxury goods and perfume, compare downtown duty-free stores — you collect your purchases at the airport.
  • Payment: cards work almost everywhere; markets and street stalls may prefer cash. A WOWPASS or a no-fee travel card avoids foreign transaction fees.
  • Bargaining isn’t expected in shops; at some market stalls you can ask politely for a discount on multiple items.

  • Bring your passport on shopping days for tax refunds.
  • Check your luggage allowance before buying in bulk. Daiso sells cheap foldable bags and extra suitcases are available in Namdaemun and Dongdaemun.
  • Liquids and creams over 100 ml must go in checked luggage.
  • Rainy day? Underground shopping arcades link many central stations, and COEX keeps you indoors all day.
