Incheon Airport Guide: Terminals, Arrival Steps and What to Do First (2026)
Last updated: October 2026 · Written by the Seoul Travel Tips team, based in Seoul
Incheon International Airport (ICN) is Korea’s main international gateway, about 50 km west of central Seoul on Yeongjong Island. It’s large but well signposted in English, and most things a traveler needs on arrival — SIM cards, cash, transport cards and trains into the city — are in the arrivals hall. This page covers the terminals, the arrival process and a first-hour checklist. For train, bus and taxi options into the city, see Incheon Airport to Seoul.
Which Terminal? T1 or T2
| Terminal 1 (T1) | Terminal 2 (T2) | |
|---|---|---|
| Airlines | Most foreign airlines and many low-cost carriers | Korean Air, Asiana Airlines (since 14 January 2026), Jin Air, Air Busan, Air Seoul and SkyTeam partners such as Delta, Air France and KLM |
| AREX station | Incheon Int’l Airport Terminal 1 | Incheon Int’l Airport Terminal 2 (first stop) |
| Travel between them | Free shuttle bus (about 15–20 min) or AREX (about 6 min, free between the two airport stations) |
Always check your ticket or airline app. Codeshare flights use the terminal of the airline that actually operates the flight, so a ticket bought from one airline may depart from the other terminal.
Arriving: Step by Step
- Immigration — follow “Arrivals.” Have your passport and, if required for your nationality, your K-ETA approval or visa ready. Allow 30–60 minutes at busy times.
- Baggage claim — find your carousel on the screens. Missing bag? Report it at your airline’s baggage desk before you leave the hall.
- Customs — walk through the green lane if you have nothing to declare.
- Arrivals hall (1F) — everything below is here.
Your First-Hour Checklist
| Task | Where | Our guide |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile data | SIM and eSIM counters in the arrivals hall; pre-booked pickups are here too | SIM and eSIM guide |
| Cash | Bank exchange booths and ATMs in arrivals; airport exchange rates are usually worse than in the city, so change only what you need | Global ATM guide |
| Transport card | Convenience stores (GS25, CU) in arrivals sell T-money; WOWPASS machines are also in the terminals | T-money · WOWPASS |
| Get to Seoul | AREX trains (B1, Transportation Center), airport buses (1F outside / T2 B1), official taxi stands (1F outside) | Incheon Airport to Seoul |
| Tourist help | Tourist information desks in arrivals; or call 1330 (24-hour travel hotline) | Travel information |
Late-Night Arrivals
The last AREX trains and most airport buses finish around midnight, though a few late-night bus routes run into Seoul. If you land late:
- Take a late-night bus or an official taxi from the taxi stand (₩60,000–80,000 to central Seoul).
- Stay at the airport: there’s a capsule hotel (Darakhyu) and transit hotels, plus 24-hour convenience stores and some restaurants.
- Never accept rides from people approaching you in the hall. → Seoul taxi guide
Departing From Incheon
- Arrive 2.5–3 hours early for international flights, more during holidays.
- Check your terminal before leaving your hotel — it’s a 15–20-minute shuttle ride if you go to the wrong one.
- Tax refunds: use the kiosks in the departure hall, and do the customs check before checking in luggage if your refund is ₩75,000 or more. → Tax refund guide
- Use up leftover transport card balance — T-money and WOWPASS balances can be spent at airport convenience stores before you fly.
- Seoul Station City Airport Terminal: some airlines let AREX Express passengers check in and drop bags at Seoul Station before taking the train.
Good to Know
- Free Wi-Fi throughout both terminals.
- Luggage storage and delivery services are in the arrivals hall — handy if you want to go sightseeing before check-in.
- Free transit tours of Seoul and Incheon are available for transit passengers with long layovers (check the Transit Tour desk for eligibility).
- Accessibility: wheelchair assistance and help phones are available; request assistance from your airline in advance.
